This pricier audio-only baby monitor gives you a clear audio signal of your baby using DECT 6.0, an encrypted radio frequency, and also remotely monitors the temperature in your baby's room. This is a useful data point for parents who are particularly concerned about whether or not their baby is appropriately dressed for sleep. With a range of roughly 150 feet indoors, depending on the thickness of your doors and walls, the Philips Avent DECT has a separate parent unit that holds a charge for up to 18 hours of monitoring time, or can be plugged in. It is a nice-looking monitor that blends well with many nurseries, though you'll have to decide for yourself if the price tag is worth the refined aesthetics.
Things We Love
- Nice Looking Audio Monitor: This baby monitor looks nice enough and blends in with most nurseries, though the parent unit looks like a glorified hotel air conditioning remote.
- Encrypted Radio Connection: The baby and parent units communicate using DECT 6.0, which is an encrypted radio frequency. It has a range of roughly 150 feet indoors, depending on the thickness of your doors and walls.
- Temperature Sensor: A temperature sensor lets you know the temps in baby’s room, which is an important factor that might affect baby’s sleep.
- Separate Parent Unit: The parent unit holds a charge for up to 18 hours of monitoring time, or it can be plugged in. If the baby unit is out of range from the parent unit, a light will let you know.
Things We Don't Love As Much
- Expensive: At ~$100, this audio-only monitor is the same price as some of the less expensive video monitors. The price is only worth it, in our opinion, if you need a way to read the temperature in your baby's room remotely. Otherwise, stick with the less expensive VTech DM221.
- Other Bells and Whistles: This baby monitor also plays lullabies and has two-way talk, allowing you to talk to your baby through the monitor. (We find both of these features to be pretty gimmicky, but nonetheless, they are there.)
